Healthy Choice Beef Pot Roast Soup 12ct Reader Reviews I purchased microwaveable cans of soups from three makers - Camplbells, Progresso and Healthy Choice. The method of cooking is to first remove the plastic lid, exposing the metal lid underneath that is actually sealing the container. The plastic lid on the Healthy Choice container is much harder to remove than those on the other brands. The exposed metal lid is then removed - it's a "pop-up" type of lid, and the plastic lid is then replaced atop the container. The soup is then cooked on high for 1.5 minutes. The plastic lid has four very small holes near the center of the lid, to release steam. When I cooked my first Healthy Choice soup, it exploded in the microwave after about 1 minute and 10 seconds. I do mean exploded - I could hear it in the next room! I spent around ten minutes cleaning the microwave, but I think that it's going to smell of the soup for a long time to come. The problem seems to be in the design of the lid - it has four small holes close together in the center of the lid, and any piece of potato or beef could (and did in my case) block the vents, allowing steam pressure to build up, As I pointed out earlier, the lid is very firmly fastened onto the container. When sufficient pressure builds up, the lid finally blows off with great force, and you have a real mess to clean up. The lids on the other two brands have larger holes, more holes, and they're spread out around the lid to prevent such easy plugging up with the contents of the containers. Also, even if all those holes got plugged up, those lids come off very easily, so that any pressure at all would immediately lift the lid, releasing the pressure before it could build up. Until Healthy Choice re-designs the lids, I suggest cooking for no longer than one minute, then finish with, maybe, ten-second increments, while keeping a close eye on the container. I don't know how the soup tastes - I'm afraid to try another just yet. I contacted Healthy Choice, and they offered to replace the exploded can. I wish that they'd offered to clean my microwave. They did take note of the lid differences. I've found that the lids of the other two brands fit well on the Healthy Choice container, so I'm saving a few of the lids off the other brands (after washing), which I will use on the Healthy choice soups, pending a "fix" from ConAgra. |
